Meet Oliver

Meet Oliver!! Ok, let me preface this by saying I NEVER thought I would get a cat. NEVER! But, I guess this just proves the good ole fashion saying, "Never say never"...

Ryan has been such an amazing husband for going on 3 years. For the past year, specifically, he has moved into my old house, has to deal with my dog, and has settled our family with all of my NC comforts. He has given up on a few of his dreams and his Utah life to make me happy. What a catch, right?!?! The best part is that he doesn't complain about it. Occasionally he will make a comment that references something, but that's it.

For a long time, we have had the dog vs cat battle. I come from a dog family. He comes from a cat family. To begin with I said don't even think about getting a cat near me. We have also disagreed a few times about my dog and how she is spoiled. The animal thing has somewhat been a hot topic for us. Doesn't that seem so trivial?!

Finally after seeing all that Ryan has given up and put up with...I decided I would surprise him. I had to go pick Taylor up from Chapel Hill and I literally (and randomly) decided to get a cat for Ryan! Something to call his own and something that he has wanted for a long time. I don't ever buy from a breeder. I always adopt! Such a great cause. Today I went to the SPCA of Wake County. They are such a great establishment!! I passed the interview and I went kitty shopping! :) Oliver won me over by his beautiful markings! There were actually two cats with that marking. I went ahead and did the application process - still not knowing which one I wanted. The lady started telling me about each of the cats. The one other cat was a perfectly normal 3 month old. Oliver on the other hand had a very difficult start to life. He started off at the Animal Shelter and got really sick. They were going to put him down but the SPCA came and rescued him. They gave him the care that he needed. He was on fluids and medication for about a month. They also mentioned he was missing a tooth.  He passed all of his health checks and was put up for adoption again. The lady asked me if I was still interested in him knowing his history. Are you kidding me?!?! How can I say no to that story?! This cat is only 4 months old and has been through all of that?!!? SOLD!

Oliver quickly was put in the car with me. Don't forget...this was a surprise for Ryan and Blake. Taylor held the box as we drove back to the house. Sadly (and actually in a hilarious way) the cat got car sick. Poor thing! The funny part was that it smelled really badly. Taylor had to roll the window down and even then she was gagging. I think the only thing saving me was the fact that I was laughing so hard. Oh geez. Then just to make matters worse, the cat pooped too!! Repeat gag cycle again!!! LOL! I have to say that it was pretty embarrassing to walk in the door and say, "Surprise!!! I got you a cat that just happens to be covered in throw up and poop!" Ughhh...

You could tell Ryan was honestly very excited about the cat. He calmly took the cat from the box and took it to the bathroom and gave it a bath. The cat was perfect for him! Instant bond right there. From that point on we got Oliver his little room ready in our guest room and he immediately got started relaxing. Blake pointed at him and yelled "CAT!" Good word! :) The introduction with Roxie even went better than expected. Roxie was more nervous than anything. As of now they are both relaxed in the living room as Ryan and I watch TV.

Pullen Park

Ryan has another National Guard weekend...and I am so sad because it is such a beautiful weekend. I want to spend this beautiful day together!!!

As always, my family loves to take Blake on adventurous outings. :) We got to spend this wonderful day at Pullen Park, having a picnic and riding the rides! Of course we went on the train and carousel, but this time Blake wanted to try out the boats too!! We were all a little nervous about how he would do. Since this is a ride that requires him to sit alone, I thought he might cry when the ride started. Boy was I wrong!!! He loved it! He couldn't stop smiling and waving. Made me the happiest mommy there. He even cried when the ride ended. LOL!

The weather has been amazing... hopefully this is the first of many great Fall days ahead! :)

Beach Bums

I am so excited.... We FINALLY got to take Blake to the beach!!!! It was only a short trip, but we packed in lots of fun!!! First of all, we went to the same place that Ryan and I had our Honeymoon at. The Winds Resort in Ocean Isle, NC. It was so awesome to see the same places 2 1/2 years later!

We got to spend some time in the sand and water. Blake was on and off about the sand. He enjoyed playing and building sand castles, but he didn't really care for the sand being on his hands and feet. Hmm... that sounds a lot like someone else when they were a kid. (ME!)

He absolutely loved the ocean! He would run in and out of the water. Ryan had a great time making a game of it.

Blake had such a blast that he didn't sleep in late. Even on vacation he wakes up at 6:00. He also got in bed with us last night and rolled all over the place. Blake is a great snuggle bug, but not a bed buddy! At least the beach was a nice place to see the sun rise.

We also took him to the NC Aquarium! Blake was hilarious. He would walk around and say "WOW!!!!" to every tank he saw. LOL! I guess he loves looking at fish just like his Mommy and Daddy!

While at the aquarium we took a picture of Blake in the same exact spot Ryan and I took some pictures when we were on our Honeymoon. It's like a Progression Picture. The first two pictures are from our honeymoon and the last picture is from this weekend! Perfect!!! :)

Family Progression Picture

I love pictures. No doubt about that. I am starting to really enjoy taking pictures and doing some fun little things with them.

This weekend, we went to the NC Aquarium. Don't worry, I will do a whole separate post on our vacation later. Anyway, while we were there, we took some pictures in the exact same spots that we had in the past.... and then I did that fun little stuff!

Our family progression picture....

The first two pictures are ones from mine and Ryan's Honeymoon in 2011. The last one is obviously from this past weekend. It's amazing what 2 1/2 years can do!! :)

Friday Night Football

It's finally football season!! We decided to introduce Blake to the game of football at Wake Forest High School...my school!! :) Blake had a blast. He wore us out because he wanted to go up and down the stadium stairs so much. He also stopped to dance every time the band played. We were also able to enjoy the game with several of my teacher friends and their families. Our principal even played with Blake and let him walk out on the field. We love our Wake Forest High School family....and football!! :)

Nursery Time

Our church time switched from 11 to 9:00. Thank goodness!!! Previously we had only really been able to go to sacrament meeting because Blake would have to go home for his nap. We tried having him nap at church and it just didn't work.

Anyway, we were so excited to have church at 9:00 because that means we can stay the whole time AND Blake can now go into nursery. I had told myself that I couldn't wait for Blake to go to nursery. I thought about how nice it would be to get a little break and be able to enjoy church lessons... instead of chasing an 18 month old around. Something happened to that... because when I left him in nursery  I fell apart. I was so worried about him being left...as if there weren't 3 other adults there. I was so worried that he would cry... but instead he just walked away and played with play dough. I was panicked that he wouldn't be social...but he played the whole time. I felt massive mommy guilt for leaving because I had to serve my calling in Primary...but Ryan was right there for Blake just in case. So why did I cry??!!? Well, that's just what Mommies do!!!!!

Once again I am reminded that my little boy just isn't so little anymore.

By the way...I am pretty sure Blake has play dough in his mouth in this picture. If not, he put it in his mouth right after I took this picture! LOL! :)
