Not So Mardi Gras Trip

Ryan and I had a goal that we wanted to go to New Orleans before we moved from Louisiana. Well, we got to opportunity to go this week...and during Mardi Gras of all time! However....it wasn't really the trip we had planned.

On Sunday morning we noticed that Blake had a large lump on his neck. He didn't have a fever or any other symptoms, but we were obviously very concerned. We took Blake to the doctors on Monday to get an ultrasound. Basically they couldn't figure out what it was. They told us that they were concerned about it. Terms like sedated MRI, infected lymphnode, cancer, and cysts were tossed out. Ryan and I were terrified!!! Blake is only a month old...how could he have these things?!!?

Our doctors then told us to be prepared to go to New Orleans in the VERY near future to see a specialist. We then just waited for the call. On Tuesday afternoon we were contacted and told to pack our bags and head to New Orleans. We were scheduled for a doctors appointment and Oschner Hospital the next morning. You know the phrase "running around like a chicken with your head cut off"? Yeah, that was us!!! We quickly got all of our stuff and drove 4 hours to New Orleans. Blake did great on the drive down!

Wednesday morning we met with the doctor. I know Ryan and I looked awful then. We hadn't slept very well and we were so worried. The doctor checked Blake out and told us that it was basically a mass of tissue that was benign. It is supposed to get smaller and smaller over the next several months. By the time Blake is 1 year old it should be gone. We have just been told to watch the size of the lump to make sure that it in fact does go down.

LOTS of prayers were said over the past week for us. We had wonderful friends and family praying for us all across the US. We are so grateful for them all!!! Blake has been a trooper this whole time and continues to fight all the little challenges that are thrown his way. This week has just been further proof to Ryan and I that Blake is stronger than the both of us.

After the doctors visit we were able to go back home...but why waste a day in New Orleans?!?! So, we went to the aquarium!!! YAY!
